PPA-CF20 | 20% Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polyphthalamide
PPA-CF20 is a high performance, semi crystalline engineering thermoplastic reinforced with 20% short carbon fiber, designed to deliver exceptional stiffness, tensile strength, and dimensional stability under thermal and mechanical stress. Compared to both unfilled and lower CF grades (e.g., PPA-CF10), this formulation offers substantially improved load resistance, creep performance, and warpage control, while maintaining PPA’s inherent chemical resistance and thermal durability.
With its excellent balance of structural performance and processability, PPA-CF20 is ideal for use in automotive, electronics, and industrial components requiring precision, strength, and long term reliability.
Core Performance Highlights
Mechanical Properties
Carbon Fiber Content: 20% (short chopped fibers, well dispersed)
Tensile Strength: ~140–155 MPa
Flexural Modulus: ~11–12 GPa
Elongation at Break: ~1.0–1.5%
Notched Izod Impact: ~45–55 J/m
→ The increased carbon fiber content significantly enhances stiffness, dimensional accuracy, and load bearing capability, while maintaining acceptable toughness for most technical applications.
Thermal Resistance
Heat Deflection Temperature (HDT): ≥ 260 °C
Continuous Use Temperature: Up to 220 °C
→ Withstands sustained high temperature conditions, such as those found in engine bays, motor control units, or industrial automation environments.
Environmental & Chemical Durability
Moisture Absorption: ~0.10–0.15% — lower than PA6/PA66, stable in humid conditions
Chemical Resistance: Excellent — compatible with automotive fluids, fuels, oils, coolants, and aggressive solvents
→ Delivers dimensional and mechanical stability in chemically aggressive or humid environments, with minimal property degradation over time.
Processing & Manufacturing
Molding Methods: Injection molding (standard and high flow grades available)
Surface Finish: Matte to semi gloss; noticeable fiber texture possible
Tooling Requirements: Requires hardened steel tooling; increased fiber content leads to moderate tool wear
→ Good flowability and manageable cycle times, ideal for medium to complex parts that require enhanced strength and tight tolerances.
Target Applications
Automotive & Mobility
Structural housings, turbo duct supports, thermal shields
→ Combines thermal resistance, chemical durability, and mechanical rigidity for non metallic components in under hood or drivetrain zones.
Electronics & Electrical
Power connectors, battery system components, coil brackets
→ Maintains mechanical strength and dimensional precision under heat and current cycling.
Industrial Equipment
Load bearing casings, actuator housings, pump brackets
→ Provides reinforced structure and thermal stability for mechanical components in demanding service conditions.
